3 High-Tech Beauty Devices to Discover

Beauty- and skin care-related tech devices have really been gaining popularity lately! I started being interested in them last year during my trip to Japan, and have added a few to my routine since. I thought I’d share an overview of the three that I use regularly.

Panasonic Ion Effector (イオンエフェクター)

It has four modes (skin clearing, rhythm warmth, brightening and cool), but I only use two of them regularly: the rhythm warmth mode after I’ve applied my serums, and the cooling mode under my eyes, which helps sooth the area and get rid of puffiness. It’s supposed to help your skincare ingredients penetrate deeper and be more effective, and vibrates when you use it, offering a pleasant little massage. One way I should really use it more often is over sheet masks, but I usually apply them while working, so I often don’t take the time to use the device.

Panasonic Memoto Este (目もとエステ)

This is essentially a massaging eye steamer, and is meant to help relieve tired eyes. It’s great for those who, like me, spend their day in front of a computer screen, and also works wonders on eyes that are dry from jet lag. There are three modes: refresh, relax, and quick. The refresh and relax modes each last about 12 minutes, and the quick course is only 6 minutes for when you don’t have as much time. The rhythm patterns are varied for each course, and the mask shoots out warm steam. Heavenly, really. My only qualm is that the bridge part of the device is quite low, as it is made for Asian faces (I may be half-Japanese, but I definitely got my nose from my Canadian mother!).

Wayskin

This device is useful for reading the moisture level in your skin via an app on your phone. It’s probably not an exact science, but I like to use it to compare different products and routines. I keep a skincare diary in a note on my phone, and take readings throughout the day while I’m working to see which products are helping my skin stay better moisturized compared to the day before where I might have had a similar routine, with just one different product. It’s been useful in picking out what works best for me.

Do you use any high-tech beauty devices? If so, I’d love to know which ones!
