Oils are nothing new in skincare, but over the last couple of years, their popularity has really exploded. Originally available mostly from luxe brands as multi-tasking elixirs for everything from your hair to your nails, nowadays, there seems to be a specific kind of oil for every part of your beauty regimen. Now that the weather is getting colder, here are three lovely oils to turn to.
I still remember the first time I used Shu Uemura Art of Hair’s essence absolue in my locks, and thinking the product was nothing short of a miracle. It got rid of frizz instantly, felt luxurious, and smelled absolutely amazing. Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil was another of my early favourites; especially the shimmery version, which I used to add a bit of extra shine to my legs or mane.
Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue, $69 for 150 ml online.
Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil, $45 for 100 ml at Murale and Hudson’s Bay.
I still use both these products on a regular basis, but here are three oils that are on my new favourites list:
L I P • O I L
I had never heard of a lip oil before trying Clarins’ magical little lip treatment; but now, there’s no chance of me ever forgetting it. A magical non-sticky lip potion that makes your lips feel instantly plump and soft, the formula is infused with plum oil and smells slightly sweet. I was hooked immediately and used it all through spring. And now that winter is on its way, I’ll be putting it back in my purse so I can use it every day.
Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil, $23 at Clarins counters and online.
B O D Y • O I L
This is my favourite product for moisturizing my legs after shaving, and it makes them feel silky smooth. Its smell is subtle and pleasant, and it really helps revitalize skin and gives it a luminous look. And did I mention it costs under $15? Truly one of my top body moisturizing choices for winter.
JERGENS Shea Beauty Oil, $10.99 in pharmacies
N A I L • O I L
My favourite, favourite, favourite nail and cuticle oil ever, hands down. It’s ultra moisturizing, works wonders on nails and cuticles, gets absorbed quickly into the skin, and smells like almonds. I have to remind myself not to lick my fingers after using it: that’s just how good it smells!
CND SoilarOil Nail & Cuticle Conditioner, $9.50 at Trade Secrets and beauty salons.
